CHAPTER 4 MEETING THE PEOPLE
The next few days were full of new faces. People from many places came to see Graham. Some wanted to shake his hand, some wanted to take pictures, and others just wanted to see the man who had slept for two hundred years. Graham felt shy at first. He whispered to Mara, “Why do they want to see me like this? I am not a hero.” Mara smiled softly and said, “You are hope for them. They see your story as a miracle.”
When people met him, they spoke politely. One old woman said, “You slept while the world grew. You missed pain and wars. Maybe you were lucky.” Graham shook his head. “Maybe not,” he said gently. “I missed the people I loved. I lost everyone I knew.” The woman looked at him with kind eyes and said, “Then maybe you can love new people now.” Her words touched him deeply.
Mara started introducing him to kind people who wanted to help him learn more about modern life. One of them was Daniel, a calm man who worked with young students. Daniel said, “You can tell them your story. It will teach them that time is precious.” Graham agreed to visit his school. When he arrived, children looked at him with wide eyes.
One little girl raised her hand and asked, “Did you dream while you were sleeping?” Graham smiled. “Yes, I did,” he said. “I dreamed of a world full of peace and kind hearts. I did not see machines or buildings. I saw people helping one another.” The children clapped and smiled. Their laughter filled the room, and Graham felt something warm in his chest — something he hadn’t felt in years.
After that day, Graham often met ordinary people. He talked to workers, teachers, and families. Everyone wanted to know what the world was like before. “It was slower,” he told them. “People had time to sit together, to talk, and to feel close. Maybe that is something we should bring back.” His simple words made people think deeply.
One afternoon, Mara said, “You speak to them like a friend, not like a man from the past.” Graham smiled. “That is because I see them as family. The faces are new, but the hearts are the same.” Mara nodded. “Then maybe the world needed you now more than ever.”
Everywhere Graham went, people greeted him with kindness. Some gave him flowers. Some simply said, “Thank you for waking up.” He often replied, “Maybe I woke up to remind us all that kindness never sleeps.”
At night, when he was alone, Graham looked out of the window and whispered, “I slept through two hundred years, but now I see life in every smile.” His loneliness started to fade. The warmth of new friendships filled the space where sorrow once lived.
One day, Daniel told him about a small group of people who wanted to hear his ideas about making the world better. “They believe your words can bring change,” Daniel said. Graham looked surprised. “I am just a man trying to learn again,” he replied. Daniel smiled. “And that is why they will listen.”
When Graham met the group, he told them, “I don’t have great power. But I have seen two worlds — one that forgot love and one that still has a chance to remember it. The new world can be beautiful if people choose to be kind.” His words were simple, but they touched every heart in the room.
After that day, many people started following his message. They didn’t see him as just The Sleeper anymore — they saw him as a man who understood life. He became a bridge between the past and the future.
Before going to bed one night, Mara said, “Graham, you are changing lives.” He looked at her and smiled gently. “Maybe they are changing mine too,” he replied.
He lay down quietly, feeling lighter than before. For the first time, his sleep was peaceful — not the sleep of a man lost in time, but the rest of a man who had finally found his place in the world again.
