CHAPTER 7 — The Bond Reborn
Ariana felt something new inside her heart these days. It was calm. It was warm. It was soft. She watched her mother more than she watched anything else. Every smile mattered. Every breath mattered. Every small moment felt special. She sat near her mother every morning. She held her hand and said, “How do you feel today?” Linda always smiled a little and said, “Better because you are here.” Ariana felt those words heal her from inside.
She helped her mother sit. She combed her hair slowly. Linda closed her eyes and said, “Your hands feel gentle.” Ariana whispered, “They will always feel gentle for you.” Linda touched her cheek and said, “You are a new person now.” Ariana lowered her eyes and said, “No, Mom. I am the same person. I just opened my eyes late.” Linda smiled softly. She whispered, “I waited for this day.” Ariana held her mother’s hand tighter. She said, “I am sorry I made you wait so long.” Linda shook her head. “A mother waits with love.”
In the afternoon, Ariana sat with her mother and talked. Simple talk. Soft talk. She shared small things about her day. She said, “I found a part-time job near home.” Linda looked worried and said, “Do not stress yourself.” Ariana smiled. “I want to help. I want us to breathe without fear.” Linda whispered, “Your love is enough for me.” Ariana replied, “Then you will get more love than you ever had.”
They laughed a little. They cried a little. Their bond felt new. It felt stronger. Linda said, “I feel close to you again.” Ariana said, “I was always yours. I just forgot the way.” Linda whispered, “And now you found it.” Ariana nodded. “Yes. And I am not losing it again.”
In the evening, Ariana made tea. She brought two cups and sat beside her mother. Linda said, “We did this long ago when you were small.” Ariana smiled. “Let us do it every day now.” Linda held the warm cup in her hands. She whispered, “I feel safe with you.” Ariana looked at her and said, “You made my world safe all my life. Now I want to give that same safety to you.”
They looked at old photos together. Linda showed Ariana her baby picture. Ariana touched the picture and whispered, “You loved me so much.” Linda said, “I still do.” Ariana felt tears in her eyes. She whispered, “I will never make you cry again.” Linda said, “Tears come from love too.” Ariana replied, “Then I want only happy tears for you.”
Before sleep, Ariana covered her mother with a blanket. She bent down and kissed her forehead softly. She said, “Good night, Mom.” Linda held her hand for a moment. She whispered, “You healed my heart.” Ariana smiled with wet eyes. She whispered, “You healed mine first.”
For the first time in years, both felt like they had returned to each other. Not as mother and child only…
But as two hearts who finally understood the meaning of love.
